Molecular Mechanism of Shoot Determinacy and Flowering in Arabidopsis

چکیده
2000, Simpson et al., 2001). A more comprehensive model proposes fl owering as a part of shoot maturation process (Schultz and Haughn, 1991). Current research aims at clarifying the relationship among the various genes and group them into different, yet overlapping, signaling pathways, and deciphering the molecular mechanism of how the repressors work, e.g., what genes they repress, and how the repression is overcome to allow fl owering. TheEMBRYONIC FLOWER (EMF)genes are required for vegetative development . Molecular characterization of these two genes (Aubert et al., 2001; Yoshida et al., 2001) have provided information on the mechanism of fl oral repression during vegetative development.

EMF1, a novel protein involved in the control of shoot architecture and flowering in Arabidopsis.
Shoot architecture and flowering time in angiosperms depend on the balanced expression of a large number of flowering time and flower meristem identity genes. Loss-of-function mutations in the Arabidopsis EMBRYONIC FLOWER (EMF) genes cause Arabidopsis to eliminate rosette shoot growth and transform the apical meristem from indeterminate to determinate growth by producing a single terminal flowe...

It has been demonstrated that Terminal Flowering 1 (TFL1) in Arabidopsis and its functional orthologs in other plants specify indeterminate stem growth through their specific expression that represses floral identity genes in shoot apical meristems (SAMs), and that the loss-of-function mutations at these functional counterparts result in the transition of SAMs from the vegetative to reproductiv...
متن کاملFlowering and determinacy in Arabidopsis.
Meristems provide new cells to produce organs throughout the life of a plant, and their continuous activity depends on regulatory genes that balance the proliferation of meristem cells with their recruitment to organogenesis. During flower development, this balance is shifted towards organogenesis, causing the meristem to terminate after producing a genetically determined number of organs. In A...
متن کاملArabidopsis BLADE-ON-PETIOLE1 and 2 promote floral meristem fate and determinacy in a previously undefined pathway targeting APETALA1 and AGAMOUS-LIKE24.
The transition to flowering is a tightly controlled developmental decision in plants. In Arabidopsis, LEAFY (LFY) and APETALA1 (AP1) are key regulators of this transition and expression of these genes in primordia produced by the inflorescence meristem confers floral fate. Here, we examine the role of architectural regulators BLADE-ON-PETIOLE1 (BOP1) and BOP2 in promotion of floral meristem ide...
متن کاملArabidopsis florigen FT binds to diurnally oscillating phospholipids that accelerate flowering
Arabidopsis FT protein is a component of florigen, which transmits photoperiodic flowering signals from leaf companion cells to the shoot apex. Here, we show that FT specifically binds phosphatidylcholine (PC) in vitro. A transgenic approach to increase PC levels in vivo in the shoot meristem accelerates flowering whereas reduced PC levels delay flowering, demonstrating that PC levels are corre...
